About PRTC
The Pepsu Road Transport Corporation (PRTC) was established on October 16, 1956, under the Road Transport Corporations Act, 1950. PRTC was created to provide an efficient, adequate, economic, and well-coordinated road transport service in the state of Punjab.
Historical Background
- Initial Operations: Began with an investment of Rs. 25.00 lakhs, 60 buses, and covered 11,107 daily kilometers on 15 routes with 345 employees.
- Current Operations: As of April 30, 2012, PRTC operates 704 owned buses, 251 KM Scheme ordinary buses, 2 owned Integral Coaches, 11 Integral Coaches under the KM Scheme, and 59 HVAC buses. These buses run on 577 routes (including inter-state routes), covering a daily mileage of 355,827 kilometers. PRTC employs a total of 4,000 personnel, including regular employees, outsourced staff, PESCO personnel, and contract workers.
